Dr Liza Johannesson MD PhD
is an Obstetrician-Gynecologist at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and researcher at the University of Gothenburg. Her clinical work and research focus on uterus transplantation. Dr Johannesson received her MD in 2005 from the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, after an internship at the Hallands Hospital in Varberg (2005-2007) she joined the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in 2008 where she subsequently did residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology (received board certification in 2012) and her PhD titled “Uterus Transplantation: an experimental study in primates” which was awarded as the “Best PhD thesis at Sahlgrenska Academy at University of Gothenburg” in 2012. The same year she was one of the surgeons who performed first ever mother to daughter uterus transplantation and so far, together with the team she has been involved in caring for all 9 patients enrolled in the Uterus Transplantation trial. She is the author of numerous peer reviewed articles and lectures extensively at the international scientific conferences, including ESHRE, IHCTAS and COGI.
