Dr. János Urbancsek is professor and head of the Division of Assisted Reproduction, Department of OB/GYN, Semmelweis University, Faculty of Medicine in Budapest. He has graduated the Semmelweis University, Medical School in Budapest (1982) and was trained for OB/GYN also in Budapest (1982-1986) and for Gynaecological Endocrinology and Reproductive Medicine in Heidelberg (1987-1992) and in Norfolk (1992). His scientific recognitions are MD (Budapest 1982, Heidelberg 1989), PhD (Budapest, 1991) and DSc (Budapest 2006). The main fields of his interest are assisted reproduction, endocrinological changes during stimulated cycles, use of GnRH-analogues for ovarian stimulation, intraovarian regulation of follicle development (inhibin, IGF, leptin), assessment of ovarian capacity and luteal support of stimulated cycle.
Dr. Urbancsek has been participating in the work of leading bodies of national and international professional organizations: secretary general (1994-1999), vice president (1999 - 2009) of the Hungarian Society of Assisted Reproduction (HSAR), member of the Hungarian Medical Research Council, Committee of Human Reproduction (2001 – present), member of the advisory committee (1996-1998) and of the executive committee (2001 - 2005) of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embriology (ESHRE). He represented his country in the Committee of National Representatives of ESHRE between 2008 and 2011. His major grants were: German Academic Exchange Program (DAAD), Bonn (1987-1989), Comission of the European Communities, Bruxelles (1993), Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Bonn (1999-2000), Széchenyi Professorship, Budapest (1998-2001), Széchenyi Grant, Budapest (2002-2005). Dr. Urbancsek has organized many national and international conferences and symposiums. He has published numerous articles in national and international journals, book chapters in english and two books in hungarian language.
