PROFESSOR JOHN BOYAGES

John is a cancer specialist with over 30 years experience in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. He is the Professor of Breast Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Macquarie University in Sydney. He leads the Advanced Lymphoedema Translational Research Program at Macquarie University. Until 2011 he was the founding director of the Westmead Breast Cancer Institute and since 1993 helped establish breast cancer screening in NSW. He has published more than 140 research and clinical articles. After graduating from the University of Sydney, he trained at Westmead Hospital and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. He is a radiation oncologist at Genesis Cancer Care at the Macquarie University Hospital. He is the author of the “Taking Control” series of books – Breast Cancer, DCIS and Male Breast Cancer and has also published Clinical Breast Examination: Taking Control (a DVD for health professionals).
